Volunteering At Nursing Homes

I bring live entertainment 3 times a week to those in nursing homes. On Monday mornings, I'm at the V.A. Center For the Aged on the grounds of Tripler Army Medical Center. On Wednesday mornings, I'm at the Pearl City Nursing Home and on Thursday mornings, I'm at St. Francis West Hospice.

Here I am at the Center for the Aged annual Memorial Service in May 2009

I encourage everyone to bring some joy to these seniors who spent their lives being productive members of society and are not now able to go out to enjoy what life offers. Some bring art or sketching classes, some bring their dogs to do tricks or just be petted, some teach them to sit-down hula, and others just come by to visit and talk story.

I've received emails from people who can't seem to post a comment. To answer some questions, I plan to feature a new person/group every week of those who are contributing to the aged community by volunteering. I've got a couple who bring their dogs to visit patients, numerous musical groups and people who give hands-on care to patients.

When it's appropriate, I will list various facilities when a volunteer performs or does work at that specific facility. So I'll post a free link or reference to that facility's webpage but only in that blog spot. I can't link the website on a permanent part of the page because there would be too many. I'll give whaever free publicity that I can as the opportunity occurs.

Don,

I saw your comment on my blog and wanted to thank you for stopping by and for your kind words about my older sister.

I enjoy singing, too. I sing with the Windward Choral Society in Kailua. We are in our 2nd year and I look forward to every rehearsal and performance.

Thanks for what you are doing in the community.

Aloha,
Kathy
